Outstanding Latvian women 2025

Typing the title itself feels funny – and yet, that’s exactly what it is. Yesterday I was told that I am one of the Outstanding Latvian Women 2025, a list compiled annually for nearly ten years by the prominent Latvian fashion and lifestyle magazine Pastaiga. I am featured in the Media category for my work as an editor of the Latvian Library Portal (www.biblioteka.lv) at the Library Development Center of the National Library of Latvia, where I’ve been working for the past three years.

The magazine text reads: “She has brought warmth and quality content to the Latvian Library Portal, making it one of the most widely read – not only among professionals. Discover books, libraries, the future, artificial intelligence, the everyday life of librarians, and the people around us! A remarkable achievement in content creation and editing.”

Heartfelt thanks to Dagnija Baltiņa for the nomination and to the National Library of Latvia for being a dream workplace for a librarian–storyteller like me. Every story gathered, every librarian interviewed, and every piece published feels like part of a greater tapestry of culture and memory.

And yet, those who know my path also know that after eight years away from the job market, I was simply happy to find a place where I could, in a way, disappear. With nearly 400 colleagues, the National Library of Latvia seemed like the perfect place for that. Doing what I love during the day, then being a sea librarian at night, and not worrying about much else.

Yet the world works in wonderfully strange ways. When I vowed in August not to buy any new books for a whole year, I almost immediately won a Booker Prize giveaway –13 longlisted books now on their way to me. When I hid from the public eye to quietly fill a niche media for Latvian librarians with content that inspired me too, I was suddenly highlighted as one of the Outstanding Latvian Women 2025.

As long as all this continues to fill my heart with golden light and honey love, I am grateful.

Thank you!
Anna

Paldies!
Anna
